A strange surgeon says that soon there will be a groundbreaking operation where the head of a man who is dying is transplanted onto the head of a man who has recently died.

A lot of medical professionals have joined in to criticize the work of Italian doctor Sergio Canavero.

One of them is bioethicist Paul Root Wolpe from Emory University in the US. According to Daily Star, Wolpe said that Canavero's so-called HEAVEN treatment "Walks a fine line between medical care and murder."

The dangerous surgery was supposed to be done on Valery Spiridonov, a Russian computer scientist who has a rare disease that makes muscles waste away.

Because of problems with the law in the US, Spiridonov's life changed in two big ways.

"Something amazing happened while Valery was waiting," says podcaster Joe Scott. First, his body became stable, which meant that his illness stopped getting worse. He got used to it because it wasn't getting worse. The guy also got married. He met Anastasya Panfilova, and the two of them fell in love and got married.

Even though he had a setback, Canavero kept working on his study. After moving to China and working with Chinese expert Dr. Xiaoping Ren, he did his first "successful" head surgery in 2017.
